Fr. Larry Richards, from his talk entitled “The Mass Explained“:
Are our churches places of love? Jesus said: ‘The only way people will know you’re my disciples is because you love each other.’ Period. And yet, when we go to Mass, we don’t even want to talk to the person next to us. […]
Excuse me! Mass is about loving of God and loving each other.
We go to Mass so we can learn how to love. He says, ‘You know how much I love you? Experience it! Feel it! Know it! Now, go and love each other.’
Our church buildings should be — people pounding at the doors to get in! Why? Because, ‘Look at how they love each other.’ Is that the way our communities are?
And if it’s not — ‘Oh yeah, Father, my community’s not like that! They’re terrible!’ Well, don’t you blame anybody else except the person you look at in the mirror every day.
‘Where there is no love, put love, and there you will find love.’
